The bill to authorize cannabis for medicinal use has been enacted.
On, June 19, 2017, the modifications to the General Health Law and the Federal Criminal Code were published in the Official gazette.
The General Health Law now includes a provision stating that the Health Ministry shall design and enforce regulation regarding the medicinal use of cannabis; the express prohibition involving any act or use of “cannabis sativa, indica and american or marijuana…, in any form, derivatives or preparations…” has been derogated; cannabis has been included within the provision that establishes a list of narcotics with several therapeutic uses and with a low health risk; and allows the importation of cannabis for medical uses.
The Federal Criminal Code eliminated the sanction of acts with cannabis, as long as these acts are aimed for scientific and medicinal use.
The modifications on the law have become effective on June 20, 2017, additionally the Health Ministry has been granted 180 days to synchronize the regulation with respect to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and other isomers, or its stereochemical variants.
This is an important development on our legal system that the Partners and Associates of our firm will continue to monitor.
